♫ ♫ Our First Community Carol Singing ♪♫ ♫

Our village carol singing event on Sunday 14th December was a great success – we certainly didn’t let the wet weather dampen our spirits.

The aim was to get villagers together and to have a good seasonal time and judging by the turnout and all the rosy cheeks and sparking eyes, we can safely say that this mission was accomplished! Our rich community spirit could certainly be felt…!! The singing was magical and Hugh Davies’s rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas was a real treat.

Thank you to all of the members of the choir for your wonderful singing and for giving it your all, a very special thanks to Jack, our Choirmaster and Claire on percussion who has  kept us all on the straight and narrow- it’s certainly been a giggle.

The choir and the community would also like to thank the Parish Council for funding the mulled wine, lights and signs, thanks also to Paul and Nicola for allowing us to take over the pub, and of course a huge thank you for all those wonderful mince pies donated from various residents… Mmmmm

May this be the first of many Christmas choir events to come, if you have an idea or desire for an event please share it, we have a very willing community as demonstrated on Sunday. Do keep an eye out for further vocal treats, and remember this is a community choir, no experience or auditions just a desire to sing, have company and fun. (I have in mind an event in commemoration of the Great War –  ‘Pack Up Your Troubles’ medley, we will require some solos, tenors and suggestions for war time songs- please see resident’s blog for further details)

Once again thank you.!!

Wishing you and your families a very Happy Christmas and New Year.

As you are probably aware, the Parish Council decided at its November 11th meeting to set up a Committee with a view to liaising with Ashford Borough Council on the creation of the Local Plan which will attempt to try to set parameters for development within the Borough up until 2030.

This Committee is Chaired by Derek Anthony (I will be his Deputy) and is comprised of over two dozen volunteers from all over the parish who will be working together in smaller groups (5 in total plus the Parish Clerk, Martin Hopkins) each one covering a particular geographical area of the Parish.

One of the ambitions of the Committee is to make contact with and seek the opinions of every Resident in the Parish with regard to the draft proposals which are beginning to feed out to us from Ashford Borough Council.

If you live in Pilgrims Way or Wye Road you will be covered by Neighbourhood Planning Committee Group 5 which is comprised of Caroline Archer (who will report to the Chairman), Elspeth Watt, Rita Hawes, Gordon Ashley, Matthew Girt and myself (Alan Vaughan).

Because we initially have a time frame of just a few short weeks we will be contacting you again in the very near future to advise you as best we can about draft proposals coming from Ashford Borough Council, and to seek your opinion. This is a marvellous opportunity for everyone to have their say and to be involved in the shape of the Parish of the future and we welcome you to join in.

In the meantime you can (possibly) find out more at the Community Carol Singing at the Cricket Pavilion this Sunday at 4pm……….

Looking forward to seeing you!

Best Regards,
