Hopefully you will be aware of the many housing development applications that have been submitted to Ashford BC for consideration to be included in their local plan for 2030.
In an effort to try & maintain some control of what is approved for our local area, the Parish Council has applied to Ashford BC for Boughton Aluph and Eastwell to be designated a Neighbourhood Area. A Neighbourhood Plan is a community-led framework for guiding the future development, regeneration and conservation of an area. A Neighbourhood Plan is about the use and development of land and may contain a vision, aims, planning policies, proposals for improving the area or providing new facilities, or allocation of key sites for specific types of development.
A Neighbourhood Plan will be part of the statutory development plan for the area, if successful at referendum. This statutory status gives Neighbourhood Plans far more weight than some local documents, such as Parish Plans, Community Plans and Village Design Statements.
Whilst a Neighbourhood Plan cannot be used to prevent development it can:
Decide where and what type of development should happen in the neighbourhood
Include policies, e.g. regarding design standards, that take precedence over existing policies
Ashford BC have a responsibility to publish the consultation but unless you manage to see a poster, review their website or find it in a local press release you are unlikely to be aware of anything.
This is an important opportunity for you to engage in the process generally and I would urge you to take a look at the attached link and respond before the end of the consultation period, 2nd May. Following which, they will make the decision on whether to grant neighbourhood status to the parish.
